Her works emerge from an intuitive, gestural process: paint is layered, superimposed and then revealed once more. This creates pictorial spaces full of movement, rhythm and energy.
Werndl’s painting moves between abstract expressionism and lyrical colour composition. Bold colour fields, spontaneous lines and dynamic structures characterise her works. Music frequently accompanies her creative process – jazz, blues or pop set the tempo and are reflected in the rhythmic visual language.

About the artist
Annette Werndl is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary painting in southern Germany. Her work often begins with a spontaneous impulse – a colour, a movement or a musical rhythm. From these moments, a multi-layered painting process develops, in which forms emerge, disappear and coalesce anew.
Her paintings appear both powerful and poetic. They invite the viewer to immerse themselves in colour, texture and movement, and to discover their own associations.
The artist, born in Deggendorf in 1956, lives and works in the Chiemgau region. Her works have been exhibited internationally – including in Europe, the USA and Mexico. At the Chiemgauhof, her vibrantly coloured compositions complement the building’s clean-lined architecture and the tranquil atmosphere of Lake Chiemsee.
