With a keen eye for architecture, materials and atmosphere, Ursula Schelle-Müller and Dieter Müller have created a hotel that blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The Chiemgauhof – Lakeside Retreat embodies their vision of timeless elegance: minimalist design, natural materials and a layout that opens up views of Lake Chiemsee and places nature at the centre. Every detail – from the timber façade, which develops a silver-grey patina over time, to the handcrafted furniture – reflects their love of aesthetics and quality.

The collaboration
The Chiemgauhof is more than just a place to stay – it is the result of a unique collaboration between Ursula Schelle-Müller and Matteo Thun (pictured). The owner says: “For me personally, it was a great desire to realise a project with Matteo Thun. I am inspired by his philosophy, his architecture – which brings the soul of the place to life – and his passion for sustainability,” she says, describing her vision for the Chiemgauhof.
With her keen sense of design, authenticity and sustainability, she has provided crucial impetus for the design and direction of the hotel. Her aim to create a place that respects the natural beauty of Lake Chiemsee whilst offering modern comfort is reflected in every detail. Matteo Thun’s clear, nature-inspired architecture brings out the special spirit of the place, whilst Ursula Schelle-Müller’s vision gives the Chiemgauhof its unmistakable character.
The Laying of the Foundation Stone
On May 9, 2023, the foundation stone for the new Chiemgauhof on the shores of Lake Chiemsee was laid in the presence of a distinguished group of guests. The owners, Ursula and Dieter Müller, were joined by District Administrator Siegfried Walch, Mayor of Übersee Herbert Strauch, renowned Milan-based architect Matteo Thun, and around 50 invited guests to mark this important milestone.
